LONDON SOCIETY MAP MEETING CONFIRMED.
Wednesday 16th September 2026, 10:00am.
A new season of live CCS show-and-tell map meetings starts again on Wednesday 16th September from 10.00am in ‘the Rod Stewart room’ in The Woodman, 414 Archway Road, Highgate, London N6 5UA, right next to Highgate Northern line Tube station.
Highgate is just 6 stops from Euston on the High Barnet branch of the Northern line, in zone 3. To avoid a lot of steps or a very steep path, take exit 3 escalator (fixed at last!) up to Archway Road, a few yards from the pub doors on the corner of Muswell Hill Road.
Buses stopping near the station are 43, 134, 234, and at the top of the High Street in Highgate Village the 210, 214, 263, 310, with 10 minutes’ downhill walk. (And for a treat after the meeting, take a walk in Highgate Wood or Queen’s Wood). If you’re driving, there’s even limited free parking at the pub – beware, it has a tricky entrance. See the pub website for further details and please ensure to check in your car on arrival.
If you haven’t been to the Woodman before, you’re in for a treat. There’s no charge for attending: just pay for anything you order yourself, at any time. Coffee, tea and other drinks are constantly available. We’ll stop for lunch together at about 1pm. Please note the new weekday and earlier timing than previously for starting and finishing.
There’s a great choice of drinks and good food: the head chef came from one of the West End’s top restaurants, and prices are moderate. There are traditional beers as well as trendy stuff, and good value wines too. Usually, dishes of the day present something special at reasonable prices. In good weather, lunch in the large gardens with a seafood shack and excellent shellfish. See About Us for details.
For our reopening meeting, we’ll concentrate as usual on London, and on parks and woods in particular. But if there’s something else, especially OS material, which you’d like to show, or just ask advice on, please bring it along. Sometimes, there may even be material to take away for free, or bring your own to sell or swap!

CAPTIVATING CARTOGRAPHY.

Via Eventbrite online, hosted by The National Archives (TNA).
Rob Fleming, the maps collection specialist at The National Archives, will be hosting an online session to discuss 10 maps from their collection. The National Archives contains an extraordinary treasure trove of over six million maps, charts and plans. Stretching back to medieval times and covering most of the world, these cartographic holdings tell the story of Britain and its former empire.
The event is free, however you can make a donation to the TNA of up to £15 if you wish when you book. Further details can be found here.
